Environmental and Economic Benefits


The benefits of processing food waste through an Anaerobic Digestor (AD) are:

  • Production of renewable electricity

  • Production of methane gas which can be used to run vehicles

  • Production of heat to be used locally to dry wood, heat greenhouses, heat local communities through district heating schemes

  • Production of high quality bio-fertilisers to be used by farmers to minimise the use of finite artificial inputs

  • Avoidance of higher gate fees for green waste (that can be left with householders to compost or collected on its own for windrow composting)  Co-mingled collections require both the green and food waste to be processed through an in-vessel technology to meet animal bi-product regulations.  

  • Creation of local jobs, training and resources
