Environmental Rationale
Fairfield is a company that is committed to reducing the environmental and subsequent social impact that our day-to-day working has both locally and globally.
We recognise that years of environmental damage has been caused through the activity and irresponsible attitude of many industries and businesses, and we believe that it is crucial - both now and for future generations – that we make a positive and active contribution to undo this damage and to work towards a more sustainable world.
Fairfield was incorporated to develop and introduce sustainable waste management practices that would eliminate existing impacts (both social and environmental) of waste management systems.
The two key drivers for the Fairfield development are the Landfill Directive and EU Directive 2000/77/EC, the former will require reductions in biodegradable waste sent to landfill and the latter requires an increase in the levels of renewable energy production.
Both the Fairfield system and the Light Industrial Eco Parks (LIEPs) will be examples of innovation and environmental best practice to encourage a move away from more traditional, disposal based waste management systems. The Fairfield system will divert waste food away from landfill to produce a range of green products, and encourage sustainable development within the community.
