Green Build
Fairfield is committed to making a significant environmental and social difference in the areas where it locates. This commitment starts with the waste management process and goes right through to the site and building design. Fairfield has worked closely with LEDA (Leeds Environmental Design Associates Ltd) to create a design for a sustainable, low carbon (zero carbon for heating and lighting) site for LIEP1.
The AD process will be housed in a flagship design which has a low carbon footprint, utilises natural light, is powered by renewable electricity produced from food waste, collects and utilises rainwater for washdown purposes, within the process and to flush toilets and all foul water will be treated within the AD process. These are not ‘add on’ features to this design to meet legislative requirements, these have been designed in to ensure that this site minimises its environmental impact and maximises the environmental benefits associated with the entire process.
The exciting element of this design is that the buildings will almost be self-sufficient in terms of services, they will generate their own electricity, major water input will be from rainwater and sewage and foul water drainage will be directed into the AD plant and processed on site.
